Priscilla Nelvia Lockhorst was born April 14, 1928, at Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Dick and Jennie (De Wit) De Groot. She married Peter Lockhorst on November 28, 1950, in Ireton, where they continued to live and raise their daughters. In the early years of their marriage, they ran the Ireton Hardware Store. In 1963, they started their own trucking business, where Priscilla was a big part of that, by answering the phone, doing the bookwork, and helping to clean out the trucks. Due to Pete’s health, they were forced to quit the business in 1979. Priscilla then worked in the Ireton Grocery Store for many years, first for Cal Horstman and then for Rog and Linda Broek. Later she began working as the part time Postmaster at the Ireton Post Office.

Priscilla was a faithful member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church and a dedicated member of the Ireton American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, until her declining health.

Pete passed away suddenly on November 30, 1996. After Pete’s passing, Priscilla knew what was important in life and that was her family. She spent her whole life spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her heart was with her family and many memories were made with them being all together.

In June 2022, she moved to Accura Healthcare in Le Mars, Iowa. It was truly a blessing to have her granddaughter Mandy, a Registered Nurse, working there to assist her, visit her, and to give her special care. Priscilla was able to make many new friends with the staff and residents. She was able to come back to Ireton to spend her last Thanksgiving surrounded by her whole family.

Priscilla is survived by 2 daughters, Donna and Willard Koopmans of Ireton and Laurie Lockhorst also of Ireton; 6 grandchildren and their families, Mandy (Bryan) Bonnema of Ireton and their children Breanna (Levi) Van Den Brink, Treyton, Macie, and Brevyn, Nicole (Benjamin) Weida of Maurice, Iowa and their children, Connor, Ashton, and Mia, Jessica (Henry) Fundermann of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and their children, Hayden and Hadley, Jeremy (Aftan) Koopmans of Ireton and their children, Gage and Riggs, Brady (Ariel) Koopmans of Hawarden, and Kaitlyn Lockhorst of Ireton and her special friend Sean Culbertson; and several nieces and nephews.

Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter; daughter, Char Lockhorst in 2005; brother, Reuben De Groot and wife Bernice; and sister, Marie Ver Hoeven and husband Don.
