Hawarden, IA: Randall Curtis “Randy” Larson, 72, of Hawarden, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Mass of Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden. Visitation with the family present will be held Sunday, December 1, from 5:00 P.M - 7:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Grove Prairie Nature Center in Randy’s memory. Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden is assisting the family with arrangements.
Randall Curtis Larson was born on December 19, 1951, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Loyle and Roxy (Britzmann) Larson. He attended West Sioux High School, graduating in 1970.
Randy's career spanned decades, where he made significant contributions as a milkman, a produce man at the grocery store, and a valued employee at Coil Craft. He dedicated nearly 40 years to Custom Coils before enjoying retirement at Oak Grove, where he continued to serve others and share his warmth. Randy married the love of his life Jane Hendricks on November 4, 1972, and the couple had an amazing 52 years of marriage.
He valued both knowledge and experiences, cultivating a rich life filled with adventure and passion for the outdoors. If you knew Randy, you know he had a profound love and respect for nature and the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, Randy relished whitetail deer, elk, and pheasant hunting, spending time bike riding, working out, walking Josie, and cooking, while also enjoying his time gardening and doing yard work. He cherished many moments camping and hiking in the Big Horn Mountains, alongside numerous trips to the ocean and Mexico.
He was deeply committed to his community, serving on the Hawarden Volunteer Ambulance for a decade. Randy was a member of the Sioux County Conservation Board, Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the church council at St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he also was a lector and eucharistic minister. Additionally, he held a leadership role as president of the West Sioux Sportsman Fisherman Club, reflecting his passion for the outdoors and community engagement.
Randy is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Larson; daughter, Aubie and her husband Willie Garrett, along with their two children, Cole and Linkynn Garrett; son, Seth and his wife Michelle Larson, along with their two children, Chance and Boone Larson; brother, Lonny and his wife Jackie; and sister, Denise and her husband Jim Harry; beloved dog, Josie; along with his extended family, Pauline “Duser” and husband Mike Lynott.
He was preceded in death by his parents Loyle and Roxy Larson.
Randy’s spirit will live on in the countless memories shared by those who knew and loved him. His contributions to his family and community will be felt for generations to come.
