Sioux Falls, SD: Rev. Frank Lynn Boerema, age 70, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Sunday, March 25th, Palm Sunday.
Frank was born at Sheldon, IA on March 3, 1948 to John and Harriet (Dill) Boerema. He graduated from Sheldon High School, Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, and from Dubuque Seminary in Dubuque, IA where he received his Master of Divinity. On August 13, 1970, Frank was united in marriage with Audrey Christopherson.
Frank’s life of service to the church and his selflessness were always evident in all he did. He had wonderful memories from the communities where he served as a pastor: Litchville and Marion, ND; Slayton, MN; Brookings, SD; Willmar, MN; and Dell Rapids, SD. His life of pastoral work spanned over 40 years. In the years that followed his retirement, he filled his time with volunteering and helping anywhere he saw a need. He was involved with the Center of Hope, the Phillips House, the Center for New Americans, the Washington Pavillion, Downtown Sioux Falls, and sang in the Sioux Falls Symphony Choir.
Frank collected a multitude of things. He collected people throughout his life, building a network of friends that spanned the world. He collected hobbies, fixing bikes for almost 40 years. He also collected coins, ribbons, tie clips, and cuff-links throughout his life. He loved to sit with friends and family and share the story behind each item. The joy he found wasn’t in the things, but in the opportunity to share their meanings with the people for whom he loved and cared.
Frank goes to join his wife, Audrey, who went ahead of him to prepare their eternal home the ‘right way’. He was also preceded in death by his father, John Boerema. Frank is survived by his favorite son Aaron (Jodi), Sioux Falls, SD; his favorite son Adam (Candace), Litchfield, MN; and his favorite son Andrew (Fernando), Minneapolis, MN. Also surviving him are his beautiful grandchildren: Alexander, Brady, Aubree, and Charles (Aaron & Jodi) and Owen, Margaret, and Gideon (Adam and Candace); mother, Harriet Preston of Hastings, NE; two sisters, Joyce Bond of Minnetonka, MN and Trudy (Albert) Meendering of Bella Vista, AR; and sister-in-law, Marlys (Don) Fawcett of Chester, SD.
There will be a visitation, with family present, on Wednesday, March 28th at Linwood Wesleyan Church in Sioux Falls from 5pm-7pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 29th, at 2pm, also at Linwood Wesleyan Church, followed by a time of refreshment and fellowship. A private family committal will precede the Celebration of Life Service. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.Visits: 9
