Rick Dean Van Hill

ROCK VALLEY, IOWA – Rick Van Hill, 52, of Rock Valley, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 following an illness of cancer.

   A Private Family Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Hull First Christian Reformed Church in Hull, Iowa, with Rev. Aaron Greydanus officiating. The Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley is assisting the family. The Memorial Service is available to see on the Hull First Christian Reformed Church You Tube page.

   In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials for Rick’s family may be mailed to the Hull First Christian Reformed Church, 1121 5^th Street, Hull, Iowa 51239.

   Rick Van Hill was born August 23, 1971, in Arizona, being adopted by John and Joan (Haak) Van Hill. They lived on a Dairy Farm in Washington for 2 years before moving to California where Rick attended the Ripon Christian School. He later attained his GED and attended Technical School in Phoenix, Arizona, where he studied to be an auto mechanic. Rick moved to Hospers, Iowa in 1995 and in 2008 he became a resident of Rock Valley, Iowa.

   Rick married Hilary Wiersma on November 9, 2012, at the Hull First Christian Reformed Church. They made their home in Rock Valley where Rick worked for Valley Machining and later as a mechanic at Cenex Gas Station.

   Rick enjoyed working in the racing pit at Rapids Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

   Survivors include his wife, Hilary; stepdaughter, Amanda Wiersma; daughter, Rachael Van Hill; son, Stephen Van Hill; his mother, Joan Van Hill of Pasco, Washington; sister, Judy (Jim) Larson and their daughter, Olivia of Pasco, Washington; and mother-in-law, Helinda Wiersma of Hull, Iowa.

   Rick was preceded in death by his father, John Van Hill; and father-in-law, David Wiersma.
