Ronald “Ron” LeRoy DeBoer, 75, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
A Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden, with Pastor Justin Raulston of the Journey Christian Church of Wayne, Nebraska officiating. Burial, with Military Rites by the Two Oaks American Legion Post 254 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Fellowship Hall following the burial. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Ronald “Ron” LeRoy DeBoer was born in Hawarden on August 16, 1949, to Walter and Nancy (Van Noort) DeBoer. He graduated from West Sioux Community School in 1967 and served in the United States Army from May 8, 1968, to May 8, 1970. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and served in Vietnam from October 2, 1968, to September 30, 1969, earning a Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Marksman (Pistol), and National Defense Service Medal; Sharpshooter. After his honorable military discharge, Ron married Patricia Kapp in Hawarden on September 4, 1970. In 1971, he began working at Dubuque Packing Company in LeMars and in 1985, began working for the United States Postal Service at the Hawarden Post Office, retiring in October 2009. Ron was a past member of Hawarden American Legion Post 254, Beresford Gun Club, Hawarden Gun Club, and Rock Valley Gun Club. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed the time spent hunting and fishing with friends and family.
Ron is survived by his sons, Todd and his wife Nichole DeBoer of Garrison, North Dakota, and Mitch and his wife Buffany DeBoer of Wayne, Nebraska; grandchildren, Tanner of South Bend, Indiana, Adam of Bismarck, North Dakota, Trevor of Omaha, Nebraska, and Haley of Bismarck, North Dakota; sister, Judith and her husband Lon Woitte of Lake Forest Park, Washington.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Pat on August 9, 2009, and his parents, Walter and Nancy.
