Ruth "Sis" Trageser

HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Ruth “Sis” Trageser of Hawarden, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the age of 90.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. all at the church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family prefers memorials to the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch or Mission Central in Mapleton, Iowa.

Ruth “Sis” Pauline (Brown) Trageser was born June 21, 1927, on a farm north of Ireton, Iowa to Herbert and Ruth (Kluter) Brown. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. Sis attended Ireton's public elementary and high schools, graduating in 1945.

Ruth married Robert “Bob” H. Trageser on December 12, 1945, at the H.M. Brown home in McNally, Iowa. Ruth enjoyed being a homemaker and supported Bob as he farmed southeast of Hawarden. During many of the fifty-five years of farming, she worked as a CNA in both Hawarden and Akron. Throughout her lifetime, Ruth enjoyed ceramics, baking, gardening, bowling, visiting with friends and family, and babysitting at Wee Care and at home. She volunteered with “Meals on Wheels” and Calliope Village. Ruth was also an advocate for Hillcrest Nursing Home in Hawarden.

Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and Catechism. She enjoyed serving the Lord through the LWML, holding offices in the LeMars LWML zone. She also enjoyed attending and working at a number of Cursillo retreats.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Barb Ewoldt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Deb and Ron Van Egdom of Inwood, Iowa; two sons, Don and Ratchani Trageser, Paul and Pam Trageser, both of Hawarden; eleven grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Cindy Andela of Hawarden and Alice Lee of Richland Hills,Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and their spouses, Dr. James and Neva Brown, Charles (Bus) and Hope Brown, Bob and Deloris Brown, and her twin Ralph (Bud) and Donna Brown; granddaughter, Pamela (East) Halverson; two infant grandsons; one infant granddaughter, Angela Marie Van Egdom; and two infant great-grandchildren.
