Sharon Van Oort

DOON, IOWA ~ Sharon E. Van Oort, 68, of rural Doon, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Sanford Senior Care of Sheldon, Iowa.

Memorial Service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at the United Reformed Church in Doon, Iowa with Rev. Simon Lievaart officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at the Hillside Cemetery at Doon, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the church. Visitation with the family present will be Monday, February 20, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa. Sharon Elaine (Mastbergen) Van Oort was born February 21, 1948 at Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of William and Marie (Evink) Mastbergen. She married Vern Van Oort on October 25, 1966 in Sheldon. They lived in Hull, Iowa for a year before moving to an acreage north of Doon, Iowa.

Sharon was a very active member of her United Reformed Church in Doon. She was in the ladies aid and worked in the church library, and copied and organized the sermon tapes to deliver to members. She was faithful at visiting the sick and shut ins in the community. Sharon enjoyed her cats and baking, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Vern; daughter, Sharla and husband Roger Tubergen of Doon and their children, Nicole and Heidi; son, Darin and wife Julie (Van Zanten) Van Oort of Hull and their children, Marcus Barron and girlfriend Kayla De Jong and great-grandchild, London Barron, Chelsea Dybsetter and great-grandchild, Charly Dybsetter, Tim and wife Jordyn (Barron) Teunissen and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Gage, and Brady; son, Brent and wife Kandi (Kooima) Van Oort of Rock Valley, Iowa and their children, Brayden, Brooklyn, and Drew; son, Mike and wife Jenny (Zuelke) Van Oort of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and their children, Gavin and Jack; 2 sisters, Marcella Fykstra of Sheldon and Linda Van Meeteren also of Sheldon; brothers-in-law, Joe and wife Henny Van Oort of Doon and Martin “Bud” De Wit of Orange City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Shirley Rens of Hull; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; Vern’s parents, Henry and Marietta Van Oort; brother, Phillip Mastbergen; brothers-in-law, Wendell Fykstra, David Van Meeteren, and Gerald Rens; and sister-in-law, Joy (Van Oort) De Wit.
