Hudson, South Dakota

Hudson, SD: Steve Homandberg, 68, of Hudson, South Dakota, passed away while under the care of hospice at his home Tuesday, October 03, 2023. A celebration of life memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 10, at 7:00 PM at the Hudson Community Center. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Eden Cemetery of Hudson. Porter Funeral Home of Hudson is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

   Steve Douglas Homandberg, son of John Nels Olaf Homandberg and Delores Leone (Hamilton) Homandberg, was born May 19, 1955, in Pipestone, Minnesota. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1973.

 

   Steve was a man of many interests and hobbies. Prior to starting his own construction business, Steve and his family operated Homandberg Oil and farmed for many years. When he wasn’t working, Steve loved to hunt, fish, and teach others how to do the same. He was also passionate about live music and traveling and enjoyed taking trips with his life-long friends, Tim and Tom Christensen. In his later years, Steve enjoyed spending time working on numerous projects on his farm with Nancy Krumm and their dog, Ruthie.

 

   Steve is survived by his former spouse Denise (Smith) Vant Hof of Hudson, South Dakota and their 4 children, Matt Homandberg (Kelli Cline) of Hudson, South Dakota, Mike (Shanna) Homandberg of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Chris Homandberg (Diana Gama Salmeron) of Los Angeles, California, and Katie Homandberg (Savannah Slate) of Honolulu, Hawaii; 4 siblings, Mark Homandberg of Garretson, South Dakota, Tracy (Barb) Homandberg of Hudson, South Dakota, Nancy (Butch) Forsythe of Akron, Iowa and Jean (Dean) Doty of Alcester, South Dakota; 7 grandchildren, Rylee, Cole, Marley, Sophie, Hayden, Ian and Lucas; special friend Nancy Krumm; and many nieces and nephews.

 

   He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Delores; and infant brother, Michael Scott Homandberg.
