Sylvia Vander Plas

IRETON, IOWA ~ Sylvia Vander Plas, 86, of Sheldon, Iowa, formerly of Ireton, died on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Norlyn Van Beek officiating. Private family committal service at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton will precede the service. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Christian Reformed Church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Sylvia Vander Plas was born November 3, 1930 in Middleburg, Iowa, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Moorlag) Mulder. She married Raymond Vander Plas on March 26, 1952 in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Ireton, Iowa area. Sylvia painted, did wallpapering, and cleaned for many people. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Sylvia was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church where she was active in the Martha Circle and Ladies’ Aid. She volunteered her time at the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store.

Her husband Raymond passed away suddenly on July 6, 1990.

Sylvia is survived by three sons, Rodney and wife Wanetta of Ireton, Bob and wife Deborah of Ireton and their three children, Alecia Vander Plas, Stacia (Brad) Van Berkel and Ryan (Susan) Vander Plas, and Tim Vander Plas of Sheldon, Iowa; her daughter, Debra and husband Jeff Vore of Maurice, Iowa and their son, Jason Vore; 4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry Mulder of Sheldon, Iowa.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Raymond.
