Ireton, Iowa- Thomas Mark Johnson, 45, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Ireton, Iowa died suddenly on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at a hospital in Dallas.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Andrew Carlson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Thomas Mark Johnson was born August 9, 1967 in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Ervin and Marjorie (Houlton) Johnson. He graduated from West Sioux High School in 1985. Thomas graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in athletic training. He furthered his education by attaining a Masters Degree in athletic training from the University of North Texas in Denton and attained another Masters Degree in education from the University of Nebraska Omaha. Tom continued his studies and received a PHD in education from the University of South Dakota.
He was currently employed as a technology integration specialist at the Hockaday Private School in Dallas, Texas. In his spare time Tom enjoyed running and collecting Iowa State University memorabilia. On his trips back to Iowa he would always enhance his ISU collection.
Tom is survived by his mother, Marjorie of Ireton, Iowa; his sisters, Margene and husband Jerry Meins of Houston, Texas, Linda and her husband Rob Murphy also of Houston, and Pam and her husband Steve Stricker of Naperville, Illinois; his brothers, Paul and his wife Cindy of May City, Iowa and Dick and his wife Sandy of Hawarden, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Gloria Ping and her husband Chad of Ireton, Iowa; 8 nephews; 4 nieces; and many cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Ervin; a brother, Bob; and a sister-in-law, Dixie (Huebner) Johnson.
