Vernon Edward “Cork” Serck, 90 of Inwood, IA passed away on January 30, 2026, at Fellowship Village in Inwood, IA. Visitation with the family present will take place at Porter Funeral Home, 102 S. Main Street in Inwood, IA on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 12:30 PM followed by the service at 2:00 PM. Burial with military honors will be at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery in Alvord, IA immediately following the service. Please join us for a light luncheon and fellowship after the cemetery at the Alvord Community Center. The family requests no flowers. Please direct any memorials to the Christ Lutheran cemetery fund.
Vernon Edward “Cork” Serck was born on June 27, 1935, in Alvord, IA to Edward and Clara (Peters). He attended school in Alvord, IA until his graduation. He was united in marriage to Arlene Andresen on April 12, 1955, entered the United States Army, and was stationed in Mineral Wells, TX from June 1955 to February 1956 until his discharge. They returned to Alvord, IA where he farmed until his retirement.
Vern was an avid Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan. His hobbies included playing golf, until his health prevented him from playing, putting together jigsaw puzzles that he displayed on the walls of his home, and playing pool and pinochle, where he had an innate talent for knowing what other people had in their hands. Vern was a regular at Grand Falls Casino during the week. He was known for attending many activities that involved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he looked forward to the yearly 4th of July festivities.
Vern is survived by his children: Gene (Luann) Serck of Larchwood, IA, Steve Serck of Sioux Falls, SD, Dave (Lisa) Serck of Sioux Falls, SD; Koni (Dale) Kooima of Rock Valley, IA. Grandchildren: Nick Serck of Larchwood, IA, Gina (Josh) Rummel of Larchwood, IA, and Heather Banister of Lester, IA; Kristin (Chris) Maholick of Sioux Falls, SD, Steffen (Jodi Pelton) Serck of Lennox, SD, Ethan (Kelsey) Serck of Brandon, SD; Jordan (Jayden) Serck stationed in Gulfport, MS, and Austin (Hannah) Serck of Sioux Falls, SD; Shantell McGee of Brooklyn Park, MN and Cassidy Serck of W. Des Moines, IA; Kelci (Ryan) Zevenbergen of Rock Valley, IA and Aubrey Kooima of Sioux Falls, SD. Great-grandchildren: Koury, Lukas, Quinn, and Peyten Serck; Lily and Xavier Rummel; Caleb, Bristol, and Brooks Banister; Lydia Serck; Lincoln, Bennett, and Wesley Serck; Hollyn and Quinn Serck; Laniah, Talia, and Rio McGee; Avery Serck.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lois Heyden, son, Greg Serck, and special friend, Elaine Alt.
