Virgil Van Stelton was born on June 3, 1945, to Jake and Henrietta (Beyer) Van Stelton in Sibley, Iowa. He grew up on a farm where he learned the valuable lesson of hard work while caring for dairy cows and tending fields. He carried with him fond memories of shenanigans with his 3 brothers and many cousins. After enlisting in the Air National Guard and serving in Vietnam, he returned to the farm where he enjoyed many years of crop farming and repairing vehicles.

In 1981, he married Carol Deelstra and they made a home near Sibley, Iowa. They went on to have two kids, Shelli Rens and Jeff Van Stelton. Virgil enjoyed taking his family on summer road trips. He spent countless hours taking fish off hooks and pulling skiers and tubers behind his boat. Together with Carol, he tended a large garden and was always happy to share his produce with friends and family.

In 2015, Virgil and Carol moved to Inwood, Iowa to be closer to family. They treasured their time with their children and grandchildren. Carol passed away in 2018, leaving Virgil with a great loss after 37 years of marriage.

Virgil will be deeply missed for his kind and generous spirit. Grateful for sharing his life are his Daughter and Son-in-Law, Shelli and Andrew Rens and grandchildren Lydia, Garrett, Collin and Cora; Son and Daughter-In-Law, Jeff and Lindsey Van Stelton and grandchildren Max and Emma; and countless other family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his Wife, Carol Van Stelton; Father and Mother, Jake and Henrietta Van Stelton; and Stepmother, Margaret Van Stelton.
