Hawarden, IA: Wilbur Karrol Daale, age 90 of Hawarden, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025 with his loving wife by his side, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at 10:00am with Rev. Ryan Denton and Rev. Seth Atsma officiating at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service from 9:00-9:45am and will resume during the luncheon. Burial of cremated remains will follow the service at Grace Hill Cemetery. Wilbur was born on July 24, 1935, to Peter and Elizabeth (Vander Lugt) Daale of rural Hudson. He attended country school before graduating from Hawarden High School. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 18 months in Japan, returning home in 1956.
Upon his return, Wilbur met the love of his life, Lucy Mooibroek. They were married on January 24, 1958. Together they made their home near Hawarden, where Wilbur farmed until the age of 80. In 1998, Wilbur and Lucy moved into Hawarden.
Wilbur was actively involved in his community. He served on the board of ASCS, a farm and conservation agency, as well as the Northwest Iowa REC. His faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted member of Hawarden Christian Reformed Church, where he served as both a Sunday School teacher and a member of the consistory.
Wilbur was a man of deep faith, an avid reader, and found great joy in woodworking, especially alongside his great-grandchildren. His life was marked by love, service, and devotion to his family, his faith, and his community.
Wilbur and Lucy were blessed with three children: Lisa, Eric, and Pam. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucy; daughter Lisa Ronsiek Drost; son Eric (Tami) Daale of Clovis, New Mexico; grandchildren Audra (Travis) Olson, Nathan (Rachel) Ronsiek, Rachel (Zachary) Cordel, Tasha (Ryan) Denton, Taryn Peitzman (Charley Shipley), and Logan Peitzman; and twelve great-grandchildren: Kyler and S.J. Olson, Jeremiah, Levi, Lynzie, and Mariah Ronsiek, Elliot, Brose, and Thea Cordel, and James, Jude, and Jonah Denton. He is also survived by his brother Ronald (Marlene) Daale; brothers-in-law Case (Vi) Mooibroek and Dirk (Sonja) Mooibroek; sister-in-law Marla Mooibroek; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Daale; parents-in-law, Kornelius and Jana Mooibroek; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Don Peitzman; sons-in-law Vince Ronsiek and Duane Drost; brother and sister-in-law Peter and Henrietta Daale; sister-in-law Joyce Daale; and brother-in-law Joseph Mooibroek.
