Joann was born on June 27, 1943 in Rock Valley, Iowa, to Raymond and Tillie (Burgers) Berner.  Joann was the third of five children.  Joann graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1961.  Joann married the love of her life, Henry Ver Mulm, on February 23, 1962 and shared 50 years together.  They made their home on the Ver Mulm family farm where they raised their two children.  Henry and Joann farmed until moving to Rock Valley, Iowa in 2005.

Joann enjoyed knitting and always looked forward to traveling for her annual girls weekends full of shopping, laughter and fun.  Many memories were made with birthdays and holiday family get togethers.  Henry and Joann enjoyed a trip to Hawaii, and many trips to Branson, Missouri, Arizona, Colorado, and the Black Hills in South Dakota.  She loved her work in the micro lab at Harker’s for many years until they closed, leading to other pursuits.

Joann had a deep faith in God and was a rock for her family and others.  She always had a willing ear to listen and offer her life experience to others.

Joann is survived by her children, Ronald (Sonya) Ver Mulm of Winterset, Iowa and Sandra Mathis of Yankton, South Dakota. Three grandchildren, Carl Mathis, Samuel Ver Mulm, and Jessica Mathis.  She is also survived by her brother, Raymond (Billie) Berner of Longmont, Colorado.

Preceding Joann in death was her husband, Henry Ver Mulm; parents, Tillie Olson and Raymond Berner; step-father, Thorvald Olson; brother, George Berner; and sisters, Thelma Mairose and Rose Hewitt.
