Dina Kattenberg

SHELDON, IOWA ~ Dina Kattenberg, 94, of Sheldon, formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Sanford Sheldon Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:30 PM until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

   Dina Kattenberg, daughter of Hendrik and Johanna (Biesters) Leijendekker, was born July 1, 1930, in Rijssen, the Netherlands. She attended school through the 8th grade. On September 9, 1953, Dina was united in marriage to Jan “John” Kattenberg on September 9, 1953, in the Netherlands. The couple immigrated to Canada in 1953 before coming to the United States in 1976 and settling in Northwest Iowa. John passed away June 9, 2018, at the age of 89.

   Dina is survived by her daughter, Anita (Cory) Dau of Paullina, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Harriet Kattenberg of Hull, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 4 siblings, Jane (Jerry) Brouwer of Canada, Hendrika Nieuwenhuis of Canada, Gerrit Leijendekker of the Netherlands, and Gees ten Bolscher of the Netherlands.

   She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Hendrik and Johanna; daughter, Janet Van Beek; 2 sons, Henry and Robert Kattenberg; and brother, John Leijendekker.
