Raymond Van Voorst, son of Jacob and Jennie (Maassen) Van Voorst, was born February 15, 1945, in rural Sioux County, Iowa. From the time of his youth, Raymond was mentally and physically handicapped which presented challenges, but he infused his own special personality into life with the abilities the Lord gave him. When home care was no longer possible, Raymond moved to the Glenwood Resource Center in Glenwood, Iowa and then Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon, Iowa. After that the place he called home longest was Mid-Step Services Care Home in Sioux City, Iowa. Raymond's family is especially grateful to the staff at Mid-Step Services for the love and care they provided for many years.
Raymond was baptized and a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley, Iowa. While he never held an official job title, some things Raymond helped with over the years included farm work, wood shop work, and wrapping silverware at Red Lobster. Raymond had a special bond with his family, especially his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette "Nettie" and Marv "Buddy" Van Beek and his nephew, Garlen Van Beek. Raymond looked forward to his regular visits from his siblings and siblings-in-law when they would take him out for dinner and a ride around Sioux City.
Raymond is survived by his brother, Jake (Hilda) Van Voorst of Rock Rapids, Iowa; sister, Jeanette (Marv) Van Beek of Rock Valley; sister-in-law, Rena Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Jennie; brother, John Van Voorst; nephew, Jaylon Van Voorst; and great-nephew, Lucas Faber.
